Website redesign checklist for service businesses

A practical checklist for redesigning a service business website without losing SEO equity, conversions, or the parts that already work.

May 22, 20267 min read

A redesign should make a service business website stronger. Done poorly, it loses traffic, breaks rankings, and recreates the old conversion problems in a prettier wrapper.

Keep what already works

Audit current traffic, conversion paths, and rank-earning pages before any design starts. Anything that earns leads stays.

Plan redirects before launch

Every URL that changes needs a 301. Every page that's killed needs a redirect to the closest live page. This single step protects most of the SEO equity.

Don't bundle services into the homepage

Each service still needs its own page. The redesign is an opportunity to deepen those pages, not collapse them.

Re-implement structured data

Schema doesn't survive a redesign by itself. It has to be re-implemented and match visible content.

Verify post-launch

Re-crawl, verify redirects, confirm structured data, monitor traffic and conversions for at least 4-6 weeks.
